The first “Rule of Law FORUM” event for the Middle East and North Africa was held in Beirut on the 9th & 10th of December 2022 at the Lancaster Plaza Hotel.
This event was organized by the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) Rule of Law Programme Middle East and North Africa, in partnership with Yousef SADER Foundation (part of SADER Heritage).
The FORUM brought together numerous experts and gave an opportunity to voice issues that are being faced in the region for transparency and access to justice notably, the role of the media, and how data protection and digital law plays a profound impact on shaping a country’s government apparatus, particularly with regards to the justice field.
The five-panel discussion were spread over two days, with three experts and a moderator guiding the conversations.
Mr. Philipp Bremmer, director of KAS, opened the session, by discussing how KAS is active in the region in terms of promoting the Rule of Law, and paid particular emphasis to the partnership with Youssef SADER Foundation. Mr. Rany Sader, Chief Legal Innovation Officer for SADER and Chairman of Youssef SADER Foundation also brought to the forefront how the SADER heritage has been endeavoring since its inception to support the Rule of Law in the region, how it continued to do so 160 years later.
The information which was brought into light by the panelists sheds a different perspective on the role of the judiciary and how the legislative and executive powers affect as well directly and indirectly this access to justice.
