Announcement No. 4/1 A.T regarding combating the increase in prices and weight of the pack of bread in the market.

In accordance with the rules and regulations related to the protection of the consumer number 695/2005 and decision 5/H.CH issued at the Ministry of Economy and Trade on 27/01/2012 concerning the identification of one set price and weight of a pack of bread;

and after the Ministry of Economy and Trade have realized that several bakery owners have communicated with one another and agreed on decreasing the weight of the pack to become 900 grams instead of 1000 grams; the respected individuals have been arrested prior to referring them to the competent court as this act is seen a violation of the consumer’s law. They have been captured under the basis of manipulating the basic right of citizens.

For that reason, the Ministry of Economy and Trade has sent out a warning to bakery owners who have been violating the law and has asked all supermarkets and any point of sale to not receive any pack of bread under the set weight and price by law, as it would be considered a violation of the citizens’ civil rights.

The Ministry has also sent out a reminder regarding the importance of placing all prices in Lebanese Pounds in accordance with the established laws on the matter, and forbidding any increase in the price for any food products without legal justification. The ministry also ensures that it shall take any necessary legal procedures against whoever has or will violate the above decision in front of the competent court.
